My Xmas 2009 in Hawaii!

It was one of the best Xmas ever...it's always best to celebrate with family and close friends. It was a week and half long filled with laughter, tears of happiness, booze, partying, and foooood! Everytime I go home I always stuff my face like no joke...I eat out almost every day...this time I got to finally try Helena's Hawaiian food with my homeboy Tama...finally got to eat the Pipikaula spareribs which is what they are known for. Sweet Home Cafe is another one of my faves now...checked this place out twice and absolutely loved the Taiwanese style Hot pot at this restaurant. The next time I come back I will try the spicy broth! VLounge's Keawa style pizza...mmm I loved the Margarita pizza there! Hawaii always treats me well with the food and not to mention partying...because we all know that the Hawaiians know how to party! There's always a party for every night u there! If you are not going to a club, then there are sports bars, lounges, and buy me drinkie bars that you can go to as well to get your drink on. I checked out the new Tsunamis which relocated from the old Sam Sung Plaza on Keeamoku to King Street...much nicer and roomier location...still a great place to go and just chill with friends. Paparazzi was pretty cool...on Saturday nights it's the new hot spot to be at...I liked the in door and out door areas...I liked how it's set up there and the crowd was a reminder of the old W crowd. I can't wait til next time I am home...next time I will set up more adventurous things to do like hiking, horseback riding, and maybe even skydiving?!

Fish Pedicures? Sounds a bit fishy?!

Remember hearing about that creepy pedicure technique in China where people put their feet in a tank full of hungry fish that nibble the dead skin off your feet? Diane Sawyer even tested out the treatment on "Good Morning America." She was a good sport about it, but we, on the other hand, were horrified. Apparently it's gained momentum Stateside as an increasingly popular salon treatment, and finally cosmetology boards have come to the conclusion it is unsanitary. Can we just say: DUH!

Sorry to get all germaphobe on you, but do you know how many different bacteria are living in normal salons? Germs and dead are constantly skin floating through the hot bubbling jets in one of those massaging pedicure spa chairs, and can never be fully sanitized. Spa technicians sometimes reuse toold that are meant to be used once, or don't clean up properly, and innocent victims who go in or a mani/pedi are sent home with staph infections, athlete's foot, or worse. Now imagine that hundreds of little carp are in there eating away at your dead skin. You leave and then the next person comes in and dips their feet in the same yucky water with the fish, dead skin particles, and um, whatever the fish digests and comes out the other end. They're not sanitized--they're used and reused all day long, and potentially spread infections through open wounds. Yuck!

So far 14 states have banned the procedure, and New York State Senator Jeffrey Klein just drafted a bill banning the fish pedicure. Seriously, people. If you're so concerned about dead skin on your feet, buy a pumice stone, moisturize your feet, and put on a thick pair of socks. It's got to be better than hundreds of fish attacking your little tootsies.

Taiwan's Toilet Theme Restaurant

Have you ever heard of a Toilet Themed restaurant?! Well there is one in Kaoshiung, Taiwan. You come here and sit on toilets and eat out of toilet bowls literally! The restaurant is called "Matong" which is the Chinese word for toilet. The prices are reasonable here. A full meal includes soup and ice cream and it's all under $10! Sounds like a fun and cheap dining experience!

My first Halloween in SF was awesome! Couldn't have it any other way. There were tons of parties going on everywhere from Hotel parties, House parties, and parties at various clubs and venues. I believe I went to one of the sickest parties in SF. If you are going to spend almost a 100 bucks on a party, then you should have a great time! I believe the money I spent was well worth it because the party that I went to was called "Nightmare on Van Ness" at the Regency Center. I got to see LMFAO perform live and hear Miguel Migs and Mark Farina spin live! The Regency Center is a great venue. It's an old historic theater and it's huge inside! There was a never ending supply of different rooms with different music.

Aloha Fest in SF

Today I had a blast at the Aloha Fest! It's a once a year event that is held at the Presidio in SF. It almost feels like I am back home in Hawaii. It was a Hawaiian fest but also a fest that celebrated other Islanders as well...e.g. Guam, Philippines, Samoa, etc. It seems like at this time of year all the Hawaiians in the Bay area gather up here in the Presidio. I could just feel the Aloha in the air.

There was tons of vendors selling Art, Hawaiian souveniers, as well as Hawaiian shirts and all sorts of Hawaiian things. The best part aside from the entertainment which was Hula and Tahitian dancing and also Hawaiian singing was the food! I pigged out there! I had the Loco Moco, Kalua Park with Rice, Banana Lumpia, and Malasadas! I wanted shave ice for dessert but the lines were way too long so I will just save it for my Hawaii trip back home later this month.

It was fun and my pleasure going to this festival with 3 of my SF girlfriends...it was all their first time attending this festival. I felt like I was introducing them to see a lil bit of my world...my culture.

Today...my roomie and I decided to check out the Buddhist Thai Temple in Berkeley that is only open on Sundays for breakfast and lunch. My roomie tried the Pad Thai noodles and I had the Chicken with Cashew and Chicken Yellow Curry with rice...we even tried the Thai Ice Tea which was pretty good. For dessert I had the Mango Sticky Rice which was also not bad. This place is worth checking out on a Sunday...now I can see why it's packed...the food portions were plentiful and very affordable. I might come back again to try their Beef Noodle Soup!
